May 23 - International Environmental Health Day: The positive effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the atmosphere

On the eve of the International Day for Environmental Health, the team from the “Omni Dent” Dental Clinic discussed, during a meeting, the positive effects of the COVID-19 pandemic for the atmosphere. The issue of plastics and the negative effects of pollution of the seas and oceans, surface and groundwater, wildlife, and growing evidence that the decomposition of plastics is causing serious global problems have also been addressed.

"For 60 days, during the state of emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, nature had the most to gain, which finally breathed freely, the air cleaned, the water cleared. The priority of doctors is the attention to the health of the population, that is why the protection of the environment is a priority of every citizen of a state ", mentioned Viorica Sîrbu, dentist, administrator of the Clinic.

At the same time, a group of doctors proposed some ideas that urge everyone to respect, as much as possible, nature:

  1. Throw trash only in the trash;
  2.  Use plastic objects as rarely as possible (annually about 500 billion plastic bags are used in the world, over a million bags - every minute); https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQ6WRZbQ1NA
  3.  Plant trees, shrubs, flowers;
  4.  Use the bicycle as often as possible;
  5.  Do outdoor sports;
  6.  Walk as much as possible.

 The group of nurses mentioned the positive effects of the pandemic caused by the COVID-19 virus:

  1. The pandemic stopped air and ground traffic, thus cleaning the air, the environment;
  2.  The cars circulated in a much smaller number, thus reducing the degree of pollution;
  3.  We cleaned the space where we live more often, we washed our hands more often, thus destroying bacteria;
    Lora Palade, the logistics manager, shared with her colleagues some very interesting information - a map of the world in which we can see the world's air pollution: The real-time air quality index. https://waqi.info/ro/

"I thank my colleagues for the interesting discussions and the proposed ideas, for the fact that they bring their contribution, day by day, of a noble goal to maintain the health of patients. Each of us has the obligation to transmit to future generations a clean and well-groomed planet ", mentioned the chief doctor, Dumitru Sîrbu.

According to a report published by the World Health Organization in 2014, about 7 million people died in 2012 alone due to air pollution.
